USC High Performance Student Athlete Program: Opening Ceremony – Semester 1, 2020

DSC_0795Last Monday the 17th of February, USC held the High Performance Student Athlete (HPSA) Program Opening Ceremony for Semester 1, 2020.

The Opening Ceremony commenced with an introduction held by HPSA Coordinator Tania Stevenson, followed by a short video of past student success stories and achievements throughout the duration of the program. High Performance Sport and Associate Professor in Sports Biomechanics Mark Sayers was there to welcome everyone, followed by Kristy Ellis, an Alumni of USC and Iron Woman World Champion, who talked about her previous experience here at USC.

Over to the Student Athlete Panel, Braedan Jason, one of our Spartan Paralympic Swimmers and Bachelor of Journalism student, interviewed the student athletes who consisted of Jacqui Russell (Lightning player who studies a Masters of Education), Lana Rogers (Surf lifesaving champion and Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) student), Russel Taib (Malaysian 200m record holder and Psychology (Honours) student), and Lani Pallister (Junior World Champion in the 400, 800, 1500m swim) who is commencing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science this semester. At the end, the ceremony was concluded with the scholarship recipients.

It was an awesome celebration and introduction, and we can’t wait so see what this semester holds for all our athletes! 🙌🏽
